Hmmm, the driver was not able to read the EEPROM.

Hmmm, my driver releases should only use the MII transceiver if one is
found. I suspect one of the modifications changed the behavior, in this
case breaking the driver. Keep in mind, though, that the primary problem
is reading the EEPROM, not the fall-back media selection.
