Aren't the values for PCI Vendor and Device ID needed by BIOS at boot ?
Plus MAC for network boot ? If so, 3Com can't rely on a driver to power up
the EEPROM...

However, I wonder how the Vendor ID is still there and the Device ID is
not... They are quite apart (Device ID at 0x03 and Vendor ID at 0x17) so
accidental erasure is quite unprobable IMHO. Could you please try with
'vortex-diag -ee' to have the complete dump of the EEPROM and see what
else (if any) apart from the Vendor ID is still present ?

I've only had one bad 3Com card which was completely broken, meaning that
the BIOS would not detect any "Ethernet Adapter" and it would not appear
on the PCI bus at all.
