Heya Andrew,

Due to the holidays and such it's taken longer than expected but i'm
back on ticking off the possible causes of the problem i'm facingwith
getting my network card going under linux 2.4.

I've setup a RedHat 6.1 system with the 2.2.12 kernel as a baseline.
(Using that atm to write this email, as you can see ...)
It uses pump-0.7.2-2, and has NO dhcp client is installed.
This works flawlessly after i compiled the driver into the kernel and
set the netmask for the eth0 interface to 255.255.248.0.

I've also setup a RedHat 7.1 system with the 2.4.2 kernel.
It uses pump-0.8.11-1 and dhcpcd-1.3.18.

What was that bet for? It doesn't change anything at all ... besides the
fine manuals autonegotation allready recognised the thing correctly by
the looks of it.

I set out to try and make the 2.4's setup as close to the 2.2's setup as
possible:

1) removed dhcpcd, let pump take care of it ...
2) replaced pump-0.8.11-1 with pump-0.7.2-2 ...

All was to no avail.
Than i even went to such lengths as to replaced the 2.4's driver source
file with the 2.2's driver source file but couldn't get that to compile,
I also tried in vain to install the netdriver-2.1.src.rpm ...

Anyways, i'm afraid all this boils down to the driver being the only
uncertain factor ...

Any ideas on how to take it from here?

Mazzel,

Martijn.
P.S. The subject of my last messsage on this was "Twofold problem with
setting up 3Com PCI 3c900 Cyclone ... continued 10Mbps TPO in RedHat 6.1
