Adding information to my recently sent e-mail:

This bug/feature seems to concern only 2.2.xx kernel.

It happens when I'm using driver versions 0.99E, 0.99H or 0.99L with
2.2.10 kernel.

With 2.0.36 kernel and driver version 0.99E the module goes straight to
the desired operation mode 100baseTx/FD without any options when
insmoding.

media type and FD are set in 3c905b's EEPROM with 3c90xcfg.exe.

The OS I'm using is Debian/GNU Linux 2.1

I can't solve this problem by using older kernels because this machine
is supposed to be an IPv6 router in our trial network.

The weirdness of this problem is that it happens only when using
ifconfig.
And I can't see any reason for ifconfig to behave in a different way
with different kernels. The problem might be in the kernel and not in
the 3c59x.c but I'd like to know if someone has solved this.
