OK, this is a 83223 "twister" SYM transceiver, with a build date of
1995 week 24.

This board has a SYM transceiver, as would be typical for 1996.

OK, this is a normal SYM transceiver table, straight from reference design.

Curious: this board appears to have an EEPROM on all ports.  Could you
please confirm with 'tulip-diag -e'?  That would prevent the IRQ
correction code from triggering.

What does /etc/modules.conf report?
What does running 'lsmod' report?
