No, it's a LiteOn chip that has a data transfer engine with Tulip-format
descriptors, but the transceiver section isn't at all like the 21040.

The unmodified 91g-ppc should work with the PNIC, but Mandrake might has a
modified version.

just to try an alternate version.  But I suspect some other problem.

This looks normal.
Check /proc/interrupts to verify that you are getting interrupts.
