Problem with DFE-500TX, 2.2.6, tulip v0.91

I've having problems setting up the above card. ifconfig shows that the
card is up and running, the startup messages show that the card is found
but I can't ping another machine (link light is on). I turned debugging
messages on for the driver and it comes up with:
eth0: Transmit timeout using MII device
I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Could yuou please help me out:
