I'm not seeing any hard hangs when I copy several 100mb worth of files

I'm stressing the Epic/100 driver very hard. All systems have been quite
stable for many months on version 1.04 of the driver. This is the
version that's included with the version of SuSE Linux that I've got
running. I've been lazy and haven't been getting the latest version of
the driver and compiling it myself.
Have your tried changing the value of the "debug" flag option that
passed to the driver to try to get more information from the driver
dumped out the syslog to help diagnose the problem?
My server system has been up for more than 105 days as you can see on
the eth0 interface in all that time there hasn't been that many packets
transmitted or received.
