[realtek] slow speed

hi, first i would like to thank the developers for the release of the
lastest 8139too (v0.9.12) driver. it solved the connection stalled problem
duing transfer of big files. however, i realised that the speed is slower
than what the 10/100 NIC is capable of. it was observed that the download
speed is at average 300kB/s and is rather bursty (stop-download,
stop-download...) even though the NIC is connected to a 100switch.
downloading the same 20MB file using a xircom pcmcia NIC on the same
notebook, the speed was about 1.5MB/s. another pc runnning a 3com 3c905b NIC
achieve a speed of 7MB/s (which is almost instant). i would really love to
use the on-board realtek NIC card instead of borrowing the pcmcia card when
i need network connection. how can i increase the transfer speed of the
on-board realtek NIC while still maintaining it's stability pls.

another issue is with modutils. after upgrading to the lastest version of
modutils 2.3.22, insmod complained unable to load 8139too module. i'm not
sure if it's modutils or 8139too problem. pls kindly advise a possible
solution.
