The advantage is being able to worry just a wee bit less (not
too much less, though) if a drive goes down.  One drive going
down is very likely to take the channel down, which means the
nastiness of the RAID5 recovery process is increased
exponentially.  In the case of one drive per channel, both
channels on a card are less likely to go down in the event of a
drive failure (though my fevered brain does seem to remember
some controllers biting the dust when just one drive goes down).
