[vortex] "Too much work" error and complete hang-up.

I'm running some computers with vortex driver in a network and they crash
(it's necessary to do hw reset to get them working again) when there is a
broadcast storm in the network. The network is misconfigured and routers do
a massive broadcast flood in some cases, then, the network gets very slow
and the computers in the net are affected too but only the systems with
vortex drivers hangs, the other computers in the network can recover after a
time.

The computers have 3Com 3C905C-TX-M or 3C905CX-TX-M NICs, runs a Debian
3.0r1 with kernel 2.4.18 and vortex driver 0.99Za.

Just before hanging, I get those messages in the system logs:

kernel: eth0: Too much work in interrupt, status e481. Temporarily
disabling functions (7b7e)

kernel: eth0: Too much work in interrupt, status e011. Temporarily
disabling functions (7fee).

¿Some workaround to get this problem solved? ¿Update the driver to 0.99Zc?
¿Increase max_interrupt_work parameter? ¿Use the original kernel driver
v1.1.16?

I used the vortex driver instead the kernel-supplied because its more actual
(apr-2003 vs. jul-2002 when the system was installed) and I supposed that it
will work better. ¿what's the difference between the vortex driver and the
driver that comes with the kernel? Seems that is a "parallel development" of
the 3c59x module, the scyld version and the kernel version.
