hi!
i recently purchased two new harddrives, and decided that i wanted to
install linux (debian dist) on the old one, an ibm deskstar 75gxp at 15gb.
When trying this, i encountered two different problems with the 3c59x driver:
first when i try to use the binary driver included in debian, it fails to
access any other computer on the network. vortex-diag reports that no irq
has been assigned to the card, and /proc/pci holds no entry for irq 11, the
irq which the card uses in m$-windoze. i have tried switching pci sockets
for the card, but it does not solve the problem. the 3c905b is the only
pci card i have installed, but there are also an old soundblaster awe32
isa soundcard, and an asus agp-v6800 geforce ddr agp graphics card.
the second problem occurs when i try to compile the driver on another
computer, using the same linux distro and kernel version. the make script
reports it can't find the file 'modversions.h' in the kernel source tree.
i mean what!?! i just downloaded the source from ftp.kernel.org?!?
not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions, but i would
certainly appreciate all help i can get!
thanx,
olle gross
p.s. do you think removing the old isa soundcard would solve the problem?
