Have you also tried 'mii-diag -R' and 'mii-diag -r' ? They should restart
autonegotiation (quite similar in this respect to a cable reconnect) and
reset transceiver. If they don't have any effect then either the
transceiver was not detected correctly or the transceiver is still not
properly initialized. Using the driver with a higher debug level should
show what transceiver was detected and its initial state.

I don't see how this could happen. The scanning done by the driver should
eliminate MII transceivers that don't "speak properly".

Well, you didn't provide this info to me 8-) 'vortex-diag -e' should
print EEPROM content. I didn't ask for it until now, as I wanted to see if
it works at all. So what I need is 'vortex-diag -eav' output for:
- card set with 3c90xcfg.exe to Autonegotiate
- card set with 3c90xcfg.exe to 10Mbit, Half-duplex
- (maybe useful) card set with 3c90xcfg.exe to 100MBit, Full-duplex
- card set with vortex-diag with my patch
For each of this also a short notice if it works or not (to have them all
together...). As I said in my previous message (didn't make it yet to the
list, probably was caught by Scyld's filters because of the attachement),
the documentation and my own results of running 3c90xcfg are not
identical; so far, I trusted what I saw with my own eyes, meaning the
results from 3c90xcfg, but maybe that was wrong - maybe there was
something specific to my model of the card (PCI ID 10b7:9200).
