that's not a good speed for 10Mb/s. I can get 950KB/s from 2 Realtek
8029AS (US $10 each), and the same from 2 3C905C (through a 10Mb/s hub).

3C905C 100Mb/s throughput is around 11MB/s (with proftpd / ftp)

You seem to have a problem somewhere...
