[vortex] (still) can't get 3c905B to work

everything looks fine.  The driver claims to be sending
and receiving ethernet frames:

>           RX packets:2944 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
>           TX packets:7 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

So..  Something is wrong at a higher level.  Are you able
to configure it with a static IP address and then ping
a known-to-be-good host on the same subnet?
