[vortex] 3COM 3c982-TXM card with RH-7.1 on a HP-x2000 server

I'm testing a 3COM 3c982-TXM network card under RedHat 7.1 on a 
HP x2000 server. The card first looks like being correctly
detected,
bat the ifconfig showes a MAC address of ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff.
I downloaded the vortex-diag sources and run it.

Here the merged output of several options:

Index #1: Found a 3c982 Dual Port server NIC adapter at 0x5000.
The Vortex chip may be active, so FIFO registers will not be
read.
