[vortex] Is this normal?

Hi there

I'm a relative newbie and I've just finished building a Linuxfromscratch
(http://linuxfromscratch.org) installation and my last hurdle is getting my
3Com 905C NIC working. (FWIW it was working cool under RH6.2)

I'm pretty sure that I've installed it correctly, and I can bring up eth0,
but before I waste hours fault finding and recompiling for the nth time, I
was hoping someone could spare me a few minutes and cast an eye over this to
see if everything seems OK.

the problem:
I can ping myself (90.0.0.3) but I cannot ping my getway 90.0.0.1, it just
hangs. I'm 99.9% that my routing tables are cool, though I can post them if
needed.

3c59x is compiled as a module into the kernel (2.4.5) and I load it up by:
insmod 3c59x debug=7 options=0,,4 full_duplex=0,0,1

Then I tail kernel.log

When I ping myself, nothing, but when I ping the gateway, kernel.log gives:

boomerang_start_xmit()
eth0: Trying to send packet, Tx index nnnn
boomerang_interrupt. status=0xe201
eth0: interrupt, status e201, latency 5 ticks.
eth0: In interrupt loop, status e201.
boomerang_interrupt: wake queue
eth0: exiting interrupt, status e000

ad ininitum, with every now and agin:
eth0: vortex_error(), status=0xe081

So to re-iterate the subject of this post, does this seem normal?

TIA
