Thanks for your response.

I'm _NOT_ using "options=6" specifically. I've been trying with
"alias eth0 3c59x" with no options in modules.conf under 2.4.6.

I've tried this one.
After I extracted several files from self-extracting archives at
ftp://ftp.3com.com/pub/nic/3c90x/3c90xx2.exe, I invoked first
"3c90xcfg.exe" under Windows ME, but it says, "No 3C90X NICs are
installed in this computer" and I could not proceed to a further step.
Next, I tried "install.exe" and selected "Configuration and
Diagnostic Program", then, installer says, "Error: Configuration
and Diagnostics Program is not compatible with Windows 95/98
[ABORT]" under Windows ME.
Am I wrong in something?

I played with "mii-diag -p x" (x=0,1,...,31), and found the only
exception that is not "0xffff" is x=0.
jasmin# ./mii-diag -p 0
Using the default interface 'eth0'.
Using the specified MII PHY index 0.
Basic registers of MII PHY #0: 3000 7849 0022 561b 01e1 0001 0004 2001.
Basic mode control register 0x3000: Auto-negotiation enabled.
Basic mode status register 0x7849 ... 7849.
Link status: not established.
End of basic transceiver informaion.
All the other cases (x=1 to 31) show "0xffff" as,
jasmin# ./mii-diag -p 24
Using the default interface 'eth0'.
Using the specified MII PHY index 24.
Basic registers of MII PHY #24: ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff.
No MII transceiver present!.
Thanks.
