Yes, it does appear that MII #0 is the one for this NIC.  The
2.4 driver looks for an MII at #24 first.  There isn't one
there.

I'll take an additional look at your logs - I seem to recall
seeing another odd thing there yesterday.  Also I have put
in (another) request for documentation to a new contact at
3com.  Also I'll hunt down the freebsd driver, see if they
are doing anything special.
