Hello,

we have serious problems, getting our 3c905C NIC's which come with the
newest DELL P4 Dimesion systems working under linux-2.4.0, using the
vortex driver. Loading the 3c59x.o module logs the following
information in our syslog file:

Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: 3c59x.c:LK1.1.11 13 Nov 2000 Donald
Becker and others. http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html $Revision:
1.102.2.46 $
Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: See Documentation/networking/vortex.txt
Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: eth0: 3Com PCI 3c905C Tornado at
0xec00, 00:b0:d0:14:76:4b, IRQ 3
Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: 8K byte-wide RAM 5:3 Rx:Tx split,
autoselect/Autonegotiate interface.
Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: Media override to transceiver type 0
(10baseT).
Jan 10 19:02:44 lxsrv13 kernel: Enabling bus-master transmits and
whole-frame receives.
Jan 10 19:02:58 lxsrv13 kernel: eth0: command 0x2800 did not complete!
Status=0x7000

For the 2.2 kernel series we could succesfully operate these NIC's,
using the 3c90x.c driver sources from
the SuSE 7.0 distribution. Unfortunatelly this driver is not
2.4.0-ready, so that we cannot upgrade to 2.4.0 at the moment.

Is there a chance to get the vortex driver working with our onboard
NIC's (DELL unfortunatelly doesn't further spezify the version of the
3com chip used). If yes, please tell me if further information is
needed.

Regards

/Herbert
