I've got to weigh in and say that I haven't seen the same sort of
problems here.

I've spent a while transferring large files (ISO CD images) back and
forth between my T20 (3Com 3c556B Laptop Hurricane) and my UltraSparc,
and don't have any problems averaging > 8.5 MB/s both ways (11 MB/s
before the T20's IDE HD speed starts to drag it down...).

I'm using a 2.2.14-5.0 kernel with the 3c59x.c 19Oct00 driver compiled
in (no point in building it as a module...).
