What is the PCI ID of the device?
I'm guessing that you'll need the updated driver to work with this device.
ftp://ftp.scyld.com/pub/network/3c59x.c
or even, if you have an especially new system,
ftp://ftp.scyld.com/pub/network/test/3c59x.c
Follow the directions at
http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html
http://www.scyld.com/network/updates.html
to install the updated driver.
