Ouch.

I'm seeing something similar with a 3CCFE575CT cardbus card, and I'm in
correspondence with a person who is seeing similar problems with a
574-based Cardbus card. His card uses a quite different driver, BTW -
3c5747_cs.c

What we're both seeing is that driver comes up receive-only about 80% of
the time. If you down and up the interface enough times it comes good
and stays that way. A few times I've seen the interface come up and
then go silly after a few seconds.

Next time it happens, could you please run tcpdump on the sick machine,
ping it from another machine and tell me whether you also are seeing
this receive-only behaviour?

Also, I'd really appreciate it if you could grab Don's 'vortex-diag'
tool from http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/diag/ and build it on the
offending machine. When the NIC plays up, please run 'vortex-diag -a'
and send me the output.

On my laptop, I notice that bit 9 of the NetworkDiagnostic register
(window 4) is stuck high when it's malfunctioning. This appears to mean
that the transmitter is waiting for inactivity on the LAN.

I don't think it's a duplex problem. If the card accidentally gets into
full-duplex mode it simply hoses the bits out and ignores current
activity on the wire.

Finally, could you please also send me info on your LAN setup? 10/100?
Full/Half duplex?

Thanks. I'll be concentrating on this one for the next day or two.
Hope to get it nailed, but it's subtle.
