You must use driver version 0.99E or later.
I think that RedHat 5.1 actually ships with v0.99E, and includes the updated
driver source in the 'kernel-source-2.0.35-2' package.  The
'kernel-2.0.35-2' package includes the old driver version.

It might be easier to get the latest driver source from
  ftp://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/linux/drivers/test/3c59x.c
and follow the directions on
  http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/misc/modules.html
