[vortex-bug] 3C905 transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e000 problem

Hi,

I'm using the 3c59x.c driver from linux 2.2.17pre16, which is 0.99H with
andrewm's patch labelled "01Aug00 <2.2.17-pre14>".  I'm getting these
messages, followed after some time by loss of connection:

 eth0: transmit timed out, tx_status 00 status e000.
   Flags; bus-master 1, full 1; dirty 37384 current 37400.
   Transmit list 00000000 vs. c3ff3280.
   0: @c3ff3200  length 800005ea status 000005ea
   1: @c3ff3210  length 800005ea status 000005ea
   2: @c3ff3220  length 80000042 status 00000042
  [etc.]
 eth0: Resetting the Tx ring pointer.

This problem seems to have been covered here:

except that the recommendation was to try the driver which I believe I
*am* using. :-)

Any tips on which driver to use, which patch to apply, or which animal
to sacrifice to make this work?
