You might try this, but you need to issue it at every boot. What I meant
was to use vortex-diag to write to the card's EEPROM the media type that
should be used at every boot. The DOS utility is easier to use, but it
requires DOS...

If you force the card to come up at boot into a specific mode, you should
not need to play with all these steps.

Try comenting out the pre-install line, boot again and send us the output
from vortex-diag (even if the network is not working! - we need to see
why).
