Problems with 3com 3c905c

Hallo!

Due to the unexpected failure of the on-board networking adapter of my
Compaq Proliant I now got hold on a 3c509c networking card and tried to use
it with Donald's latest driver and Linux 2.0.36 and Debian Linux 2.1.
We run a 10MBit network that is correctly detected by the card.

The driver compiles okay, but when the kernel boots I get this message:

After booting completes I am not able to configure the IP networking as
usual:

I tried your diagnostic program:

The Vortex chip may be active, so FIFO registers will not be read.

By now, I tried the 3com driver as well, but it did not work at all.
