Problem with crashing nfs server

Hello,
I am running Red Hat Linux 5.1 on a PII 400 with a 3Com 905B network card and the
v0.99L version of the network card. I also updated my nfsserver RPM package to v40.
Almost every time that I try to copy/tar/extract a large file on a Linux server drive
nfs mounted to a different unix machine (HP or Solaris), my rpc.nfsd process dies,
my machines that nfs mount the Linux server, freeze, and often, some files that have
been opened from the server drive, get corrupted!
I don't know if the network card or the driver are the source of the problem though...
I posted on the mailing list earlier and received suggestions to update to the latest versions
of the network driver and nfs, but none of that seems to have helped, since I still crash.
I will greatly appreciate any help in this matter.
dmesg reports:
