MII transceiver not found in 3c905B

In RedHat 5.1, I'm trying to install 3Com 3c509B rev.36 ethernet card
and it gives an error starting linux taht says: "No MII transceiver
found!!". The card appears when you use ifconfig but the network does
not work (no ping, no telnet...)
        However, when I use a 3Com 3c509 rev.0 it works OK
        Both ethercars would hace to be the same... Do you know any
reason? How I can get it to work?
(I used the last drivers 0.99G, 0.99E and 0.99)
