Hello,
the following troubleshooting info may be useful for you:
Scenario: You want to use your ATX PC to run WNT and Linux with an
3c905B Network card. Your corporate PC has been NT-preinstalled and you
booted the PC a couple of times. After installing A MODERN LINUX (kernel
greater 2.0.33) INCLUDING 3c59x.o your Network card has the MAC adress
FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF.
"Solution": After recompiling kernels and drivers without success you
just replace the network card with another one of the same type.
BINGO-there you have a reasonable MAC address. You find out that the
3c905B needs a *real* power reset by flipping the *real* power switch on
the backside of your PC before you boot Linux.
Dear 3com Quality Assurance, I would expect better test cases (am I the
only guy running multiple OSs on one box ??) !
hope this helps
Frank
