I have been bugging Allied Telesyn for documentation, but the customer 
support is stupid and unwilling - "we no linux driver, go away".  Will
keep trying.

Maybe this *is* the problem...  the ATI Windows driver knowing how to 
work around this, and the "generic" driver doesn't, so the transceiver
isn't enabled.

So what do you suggest how to proceed?
