[tulip] mtable build problem, whatever that means

Hey.

I'm trying to get a Macronix NIC (which uses the tulip driver) to work
on an older machine.  It works just fine on my new KT133 AMD machine
(I'm using it to send this message), but when I swap it into an old 486,
I get the following on bootup: "tulip0: no phy info, aborting mtable
build".  I've emailed the maintainer of the driver, but he hasn't
responded.  Does anyone know what the problem might be?  Thanks...
