The Tulip driver from Scyld recognizes and *almost* works with 17xl300
series.  The driver and diagnostic program can read the EEPROM,
configure the transceiver, etc.  The problem is the bus-master signals
are not acknowledged by the bus controller, and the controller waits in
descriptor-fetch state.

It's likely that this problem is a single register setting, and with the
proper datasheet the driver would be working in five minutes.  But,
despite many, many attempts through both Connexant and Compaq I cannot
get hold of the programming information.
