[tulip] Cogent Quartet EM400TX <-crossover-> SMC EtherPower 10/100 Dual

Hello!

I now have one port of my EM400TX connected via crossover cable to one
port of my SMC EtherPower 10/100 Dual.

Bootup-messages of these cards: (only the used port)

SMC:
eth0: Digital DS21140 Tulip rev 32 at 0xd800, 00:E0:29:25:23:89, IRQ 10.
eth0:  EEPROM default media type Autosense.
eth0:  Index #0 - Media MII (#11) described by a 21140 MII PHY (1) block.
eth0:  MII transceiver #3 config 3100 status 7809 advertising 01e1.
eth0:  Advertising 0101 on PHY 3, previously advertising 01e1.
eth0:  Advertising 0101 (to advertise is 0100).

Cogent:
eth2: Digital DS21140 Tulip rev 32 at 0xb800, 00:00:92:95:2A:C8, IRQ 12.
eth2:  EEPROM default media type Autosense.
eth2:  Index #0 - Media 100baseTx-FD (#5) described by a 21140 non-MII (0) block.
eth2:  Index #1 - Media 100baseTx (#3) described by a 21140 non-MII (0) block.

I force booth Cards with an lilo-option to 100BaseTX-FD, which seems to
work.
But: I have to 'ifconfig eth2 down; ifconfig eth2 up' to
reinitialize the Cogent after the maschine with the SMC has booted up to
get the link work.

What is the reason for this?
If i use an Dlink DFE500TX as replasement for one of both cards, there is
no problem.
