Problems with the Netgear FA310TX - Broadcasts and TX Lockup

I'd like to chime in and say that I too have been disappointed with
the luck I've been having with my FA310TX PCI card. I've been
collecting info, but haven't had the time to actually put it into a
nice format and bug report. Here's my report so far, it's pretty darn
long with lots of detail about various versions of drivers I've
tried.
Thanks for looking at this all,
John

Hi Donald, Jeff and the rest,
I've been going slowly nuts trying to get my home network to run as
well as I expect it should, and I'm starting to regret getting all
this NetGear stuff that I did. It consists of
- Linux 2.2.15pre13, NetGear FA310-TX PCI 10/100 carc, Pentium
150, 128 Mb RAM, Matrox Millenium 4Mb, Shuttle HOT-541
motherboard. RedHat 6.1. Runs great, even if it's not the
fastest. [ jfshome ]
- SparCLASSIC, Linux 96 Mb Ram, RedHat 6.0, built in 10baseT
ethernet. Linux 2.2.5-15. Will become my Firewall NAT box
someday. [ classic ]
- Windows 98, NetGear FA310-TX PCI 10/100 card, Pentium II 450,
128 Mb of Ram, Matrox G200 16Mb, MSI MS-6367 440BX
motherboard. [ pc ]
- At the center of it all, NetGear DS108 Dual Speed Hub.
I've tried the following version of the tulip driver, with various
levels of un-sucess:
tulip-0.89H (old_tulip from 2.2.15pre13)
tulip-0.90q
tulip-0.90z
tulip-0.91g (from 2.2.15pre??)
tulip-0.91g-ppc (from 2.2.15pre13)
Soon to try 0.92 when I get a chance, but I don't think I'm going to
be lucky.
Basically, when I ifconfig eth0 up, it auto-negotiates to be
100baseTx, which is great, this is exactly what the [pc] does as
well. The [classic] only does 10baseT, which I expect. I hope to get
a 100baseTx HME Sbus card for further testing down the line.
But I can't seem to send packets to either the classic or the pc
without lots of timeouts and dropped packets. The performance is
pathetic. And depending on which version of the driver I use, I
sometimes don't get a useable link at all, it just reports:
From jfshome (192.168.1.2): Destination Host Unreachable
Even though the link lights are on the hub.
More annoyingly, when I ping the PC from the Classic, it works just
fine, no dropped packets or anything outrageous. This is good,
because I had at first thought that the hub was bad.
Here's the lspci -xxxvv output from [ jfslinux ], showing that this
isn't a true tulip based FA310-TX board:

Here's the log of doing an insmod, and then using the mii-diag and
tulip-diag programs from Donald Becker's web site to try and see what
the board reports on startup. The mii-diag program was compiled with the libmii stuff as well, to make sure we got lots of debugging info. Unfortunately, the 0.89H version of the driver didn't work quite properly with mii-diag, so all we have is the info from the tulip-diag.
