Hello,
I set up a small network with a Linux and a Win NT based computer and
installed in each an 100Mbs network adapter (noname, sorry, seems to be
a Macronix, the accomplished Win NT driver is named PRO 120(B) Fast
Ethernet Adapter). On both computers the network adapters are configured
to 100baseTx full duplex (on Linux: tulip version 0.91g, options: 21).
The connections works fine, except that the transfer rate seem to be
only 10Mbs, at least the rate displayed by xosview and overall speed
indicate this (it is always less then 2MB/sec while transfering large
cached files as well as using an XServer). The diagnostic output is
tulip-diag

Index #1: Found a Macronix 98715 PMAC adapter at 0xec00.
Port selection is 10mpbs-serial 100baseTx scrambler, full-duplex.
Transmit started, Receive started, full-duplex.
The Rx process state is 'Waiting for packets'.
The Tx process state is 'Idle'.
The transmit threshold is 72.
No MII transceivers found!
EEPROM size is 6.
A simplifed EEPROM data table was found.
The EEPROM does not contain transceiver control information.

So I ask, does the "10mpbs-serial" mean, that the adapter is recognised
to be capable only of 10mps? Or is there anything that I can change in
my configuration? Or are the chip registers just not compatible with
normal tulip cards?
Is there anything importent to know from the
http://www.mxic.com.tw/publish/2276.htm page (link is given on the tulip
page under compatibility section for Macronix cards). This page is no
longer available.
Thanks for any idea,
Robert
