Kevin:

You almost definately don't want a 100BaseT4 card. T4 is the standard for
running 100Mbps ethernet over old Cat 3 UTP cable using all 4 wire pairs. The
standard evolved to allow upgrades to places with antiquated wiring facilities
and an unwillingness to pull new cable. A T4 setup requires both hubs,
switches, routers and/or nics to be T4 compliant.

The "normal" Fast Ethernet for you is likely 100BaseTX (100Mbps over 2 pairs in
a Cat 5 cable).

Hello All,

Is there any difference between the use of an ANA-6944 and an ANA-6940
in a Linux Beowulf cluster of four Pentium II's? There is a bit of
networking terminology I am not familiar with - 100BASE-T4 and
100BASE-TX: is one of these standards preferred for single port "normal"
fast ethernet cards?

Currently, I want to use only one four-port card, and later, if the
networking is a bottleneck, buy additional four-ports.

Many thanks for any information,

Kevin Williams
