problem with the new netgear and 0.89K

I am getting a message approx 10 seconds after the card is ifconfigd

eth0: the transmitter stopped! csr5 is 26b8016, csr6 816e2002

I attempted this with 0.88, 0.89H and 0.89K. I didn't see the message with
version prior to 89K but it may have been there. 

The card does respond to arp requests, but nothing else.

my machine is a dell p-133 with 2.0.35 and no modules connected to a 10Mb
port on a switch.
