There are a few boards where it would really help.  Boards with four
switch or repeater ports (not multiple NIC chips, one NIC with a hub)
often have something unique, like a special transceiver connection.  But
I haven't encountered such a board that has a unique subsystem ID.

See the media table substitution code in the driver, which is based on
the MAC prefix.  The boards that require explicit media tables predate
PCI subsystem IDs.
