tulip driver compile problem

I have recently bought an NDC SOHOware 10/100 Fast Ethernet card which as I
understand requires a non-standard possibly later release of the tulip
driver than the one included in the Corel Linux distribution (kernel release
is 2.2.12). When I attempt to compile either the tulip driver supplied by
NDC or the latest tulip driver available, I get compile errors that result
from missing *.ver files that are #included in modversions.h. Where should
these *.ver files be coming from? the kernel? the distribution? or is there
a utility that generates them that I need to run?
