That's a very unusual error.
Verify that you don't have some other rtl8139 driver (e.g. 8139too) loaded.
Check in /proc/ioports for another device registered at 0xd800.

If there is no obvious conflict, try compiling the driver rtl8139.c with
the additional option
  -DUSE_MEM_OPS
