I've just spent the best part (...worst part?) of 4 hours trawling =
through the archives for an answer to my problem.

I have just installed RedHat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.2-2) on a system with Win98 =
as well. My NT4 laptop has no problem with the Win98 connection. Linux =
is a different matter. Dead as a door-nail and half as responsive ;) =
>From the distribution cd I gleaned the www.scyld.com web-site and the =
rest you know. The reason for 7.1 is that the database systems I use for =
development are not certified for anything more recent.

Following instructions I downloaded pci-scan.c, rtl8139.c and associated =
.h files and compiled as specified. However, /sbin/insmod mentions a =
number of unresolved symbols, among them pci_write_config_byte, kmaloc, =
pci_find_class, __check_region,...about 20 in all.

/sbin/lspci reports Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139 (rev 10)

My concern is that I could spend the next x days trying to leap this =
hurdle, or I could go to my local pc store and probably spend $100 on a =
network card which works straight up. Can you show me a way to prevent =
me from spending any more money and hopefully, any more time?

Thanks in anticipation,
Mark
