I was wrong: 1.00F is the most recent version.  (I have a 1.00g internal
version, but that only combines the check-duplex code into its own function.)

What is the exact error message?  Just the numbers will do:
" status %2.2x %4.4x media %2.2x.\n",

Does the chip restart after the timeout?  (It should -- there is a complete
reset.)
