All:

I am having some issues with a node running Debian (kernel
2.4.18-1-686-smp) and the eepro100.c driver (version 1.09j-t / revision
1.36).

The NIC comes up OK, but initial connectivity to the box from the
outside requires a ping to the host in order to bring the NIC to life.

The scenario goes like this -

ssh -l root debian_server

[connect fails with a timeout :-/ ]

Log into remote server on same subnet/segment and issue ping request to
debian_server

Pinging 192.168.124.100 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

Reply from 192.168.124.100: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=255

Reply from 192.168.124.100: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=255

Ping statistics for 192.168.124.100:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Now I can access the server. It appears that the NIC is sleeping.

Anyone have an idea as to what is going on here?

Please reply directly as I am not a subscriber of this list.

TIA,

Jeff
