[eepro100] (no subject)

I've seen some mumblings here and there on the list archives about some
eepro100 adapters not working. Mine doesn't, and I didn't really see a
solution for it. Hopefully I just missed it. :)

I have an "Intel 10/100 mini-PCI" NIC integrated in my Compaq Armada M700.
lspci shows it as "00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557
[Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 09)".

I'm using RedHat V7.1 with the 2.4.x kernel. I also tried it with RedHat
6.2, using the 2.2.16 kernel, and the behavior was the same.

Basically, the built-in eepro100.o driver always displays this message:
eepro100: wait_for_cmd_done timeout!

I tried using the latest driver's from Intel (the e100.o driver). At first,
the card worked! But after a reboot, it didn't. Some more experimentation
showed that often (but not always) if I loaded the Intel driver it would
initialize the card, then I could unload that and load the eepro100.o driver
and it would work for a while.

I tried compiling the latest driver off the scyld.com site, but it doesn't
seem to compile with the 2.4.x kernel (hopefully that's just me).

I did download the diagnostics from scyld.com and it showed the card as
fine. I even turned off the sleep bit in the card just for grin--- no
changes.

Am I out of luck with this card? It functions wonderfully in the various
Windows versions on the same machine...

Thanks!
