I have a new test version of the eepro100.c driver available from
  ftp://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/linux/drivers/test/eepro100.c

This version has changes intended to recover the repeated cycle of "transmit
timed out" messages. It uses a "selective reset", which hopefully clears
the opaque error condition which causes the problem.

It also has support for the larger serial EEPROM on the IBM i82559 board.

We now have an application (the PVFS parallel file system) on our cluster
which can occasionally trigger this problem. Curiously, it occurs on only
a specific few of the nominally identical nodes(?!).

This driver updates doesn't attempt to fix the unknown problem. Instead it
preserves some information in the Tx status entries, and attempts to reset
rather than just restarting the chip when the transmit problem does occur.

As usual, please send reports.
