SIOCSIFFLAGS

I'm running a dual PII 400, and its got the Intel 
I get the message
"SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource Temporarily unavailable" when eth0 tries to come
up.

The driver appears to load correctly when the kernel boots; I boot into
single user mode just fine, and again when I try  to bring up eth0 I get
the message.  Any help would be appreciated.  

Of course the first thing I should ask is if that new update to the driver
would solve this problem...
