A partial oversimplification perhaps — especially depending on your jurisdiction — but to some extent, one becomes stretched to the point they allow themselves to be stretched, or choose to be stretched if it’s self-inflicted because there are just so many interesting things to do. 

That is one of the reasons I'm wouldn’t be incredibly interested in taking a non-union IT position, even for more money. One could potentially substitute the specialized nature of most of our work for having that protection (or having the more money), but I’d rather not. 

I have at times been told I’m inflexible on one thing or another regarding how far I will allow myself to be stretched, but I think boundaries are important.
