[Beowulf] [EXTERNAL] server lift

That’s an interesting idea.. suspending it from above gives you some “wiggle room” as you try to line it up with the rack shelf, or engage the rack slides. That’s always been the hassle – holding up the 30 kg box while trying to get it aligned just so to get BOTH slides inserted.
I can see the safety people getting a bit nervous about people getting “under” the suspended load (imagine loading into the top slot of a tall rack). But that’s more a process and training thing. And the right design for the rolling gantry.

Do you want one with a scissor lift type arrangement, or with a "prongs" arrangement (more like a forklift)
For instance, the scissor types have a nice flat surface that remains level, so you can slide stuff off a table onto the lift, or from the lift onto a table. But you don't have access "under" the platform.

we're using an older genie lift as a server lift currently. which as
you can guess isn't designed for servers. the most recent set of
compute nodes we purchased are pretty much impossible to lift by man
(even if that was a good idea) and the genie lift is getting awkward
in our cramped data center given it's design and server weight.
i can certainly google for one, but they all look great in the
glossies. does anyone want to provide some real world info?
