Hello Beowulf,
Tantos' COS simulator appears to in fact have a compiler! Here is what I
found in the dump log:
o$31('CS031 - INVALID DATASET NAME: 'A8) 101('CS101 - BAD CHARACTER
IN PROTOTYPE STATEMENT') 103('CS103 - UNTERMINATED LINE IN PROTOTYPE
STATEMENT') 104('CS104 - UNBALANCED PARENTHESES IN PROTOTYPE STATEMENT')
105('CS105 - PROTOTYPE SEPARATOR OUT OF SEQUENCE AFTER 'A8) 106('CS106
- RESERVED NAME &DATA USED IN PROTOTYPE') 107('CS107 - DUPLICATED
PARAMETER NAME IN PROTOTYPE: 'A8) 108('CS108 - PARAMETER TOO LONG IN
PROTOTYPE: 'A8' ...')109('CS109 - POSIT. PARAM. AFTER KEYWORDS IN
PROTOTYPE: 'A8) 110('CS110 - NULL PARAMETER IN PROTOTYPE STATEMENT')
111('CS111 - BAD CHARACTER IN PROCEDURE INVOCATION') 113('CS113 -
UNTERMINATED LINE IN PROCEDURE INVOCATION')114('CS114 - UNBALANCED
PARENTHESES IN PROCEDURE INVOCATION') 115('CS115 - SEPARATOR OUT OF
SEQUENCE AFTER 'A8) 116('CS116 - UNRECOGNIZED KEYWORD: 'A8)
117('CS117 - KEYWORD TOO LONG: 'A8' ...') 118('CS118 - POSITIONAL
PARAMETER AFTER KEYWORDS: 'A8) 119('CS119 - EXTRA POSTIONAL PARAMETER:

132('CS132 - &DATA FILENAME TOO LONG: 'A8) 133('CS133 - UNEXPECTED END

135('CS135 - ILLEGAL CHARACTER IN &DATA DSN: 'R1) 136('CS136 - &DATA

I made a short video on the subject:

What do you think, do I start writing JCL? It looks interactive, do you
